Listening to understand…

I noticed the topic of ‘listening to understand versus listening to reply‘ has been trending on social media lately. I’ve been trying to understand what those set of words meant to me. As I’ve witnessed conversations since I saw these said posts, I realized that people tend to do exactly that – they are quick to reply without actually understanding what you said. I, myself, am guilty of this. If one slows down, and is actively listening, they are more likely to understand the other person’s stance.

In this journey that I am in, I am committing to actively listen to others to understand, and not to reply before I’ve actually taken a moment to understand their point.

Will you? What are your thoughts on this subject?

What to do?

I’m 30 years old, and I’m not quite sure where I’m heading. I’ve been successful enough in my career thus far, so they say, with promotions leading to leadership roles for the last 7 years. My career has recently come to a halt (which I’ll explain in a future post), and I’m simply not sure where I’m headed.

I’m been toying with the idea of changing sectors altogether, and exploring the non-profit sector, or ideally applying to charitable organization. I want to help people – I’ve always wanted to touch people’s lives, and I was never sure how to go about doing this.

I recently volunteered at an event, and will continue to volunteer at various events, and through charitable organizations. This type of work lit something in me that makes me feel like I’m closer to living a fulfilling life. This is the feeling I want to feel most days going to ‘work’. I almost feel like I’ve been aimlessly for the last X amount of years that I’ve been in the working force. Was it a waste of time? No! I strongly believe that you’re always in the right place, at the right time.

What do you think?

My first time…

Today is officially my first day blogging. What did you think I was talking about?? 😆 I used to enjoy writing, in fact as a child I dreamt of becoming a journalist at one point.

Thanks for joining me! My name is Patricia, and I’ve decided to start this blog with the main purpose of getting my thoughts down on paper, or on the internet for everyone to see and read in this case.

A bit about me… I’ve come a long way! It’s been an exciting journey, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you all in upcoming posts! Stay tuned. ❤️
